Our Profile

Long life Africa is a non governmental and nonprofit making organization born in 2011 with the ultimate aim of making Ghana and Africa free from hepatitis. The organization consist of a  multidisciplinary medical team, public health specialists, people living with hepatitis and any other person interested in fighting hepatitis. It is registered with Registrar General Department with registration number CG061872016 . It has its headquarters in Accra Ghana.

It started its activities in Accra in 2011. It was able to lead a national wide campaign against hepatitis in 2011 in collaboration with Ghana Television and was able to successfully hold a week long education in all the major local languages in Ghana which led to the formation of the Ghana Hepatitis Control Program the  following year. It joined the World Hepatitis Alliance which is the Global voice for people living with viral hepatitis  that same year and work closely with World Health Organization.

Long life Africa is also a founding member of the Africa Liver Patient Association and the Ghana Hepatitis Coalition. It was invited to the first ever World Hepatitis Summit in the UK. Fully participated in the 2018 World Hepatitis Summit in Sao Paul Brazil. Was very instrumental in the formation of the Africa Liver Patient Association in Cairo Egypt. We again participated in the first ever Africa Liver Patient Association meeting in Sharm EL Shirk in Egypt. The recently ended Africa Hepatitis Summit in Uganda was also attended by Long life Africa

Long life Africa was again invited to present its findings during the Ghana Hepatitis Summit last year and it was very successful. We also wrote a lot of articles on hepatitis, the most recent among them was Hepatitis Global Disaster. Please visit http://www.newsghana.com.gh/hepatitis-b-global-disaster/. We also collaborated in diverse ways to get the hepatitis B medication from Dan Adams and immunoglobulin from Biotest Pharma, Germany for clients at a very affordable price. The evidence of registration with food and drugs Board has been attached .We liaise with Korle Bu Reference lab to assist clients with viral load and Liver Profile Test at a very reasonable cost

Long life Africa and Ghana Health Service has been very good partners. In 2013 we waged a campaign dubbed “ Hepatitis Gargantuan Danger “ in the Volta region and was nearly stopped by the then district director of the South Tongu District because hepatitis then was very unpopular. We were then very resilient in our efforts so we proceeded to the Regional Director  of Health Services who reasoned with us and wrote a letter directing all district directors and medical superintendents to collaborate with us and fully support us. This gave us the opportunity to collaborate with the Ghana Community Radio Network to carry out a very successful awareness campaign across the region. The Then Municipal Director of Aflao and the Municipal Assembly also collaborated with us to successfully screen and vaccinate people within the municipality.

Another campaign was launched in hard to reach senior high schools in 2016 along the Oti enclave of the Volta region. It was at this point that Long life Africa was able to conduct a research in Krachi senior high school and discovered a very high prevalence of 14.2% among the senior high students. This finding was published in the School of Public Health, University of Ghana. Please visit University of Ghana Digital Collections for details. Long life Africa is now embarking on resource mobilization both locally and internationally to screen and vaccinate all senior high students free of charge.
